Meet The Team

Group Therapy Clinic Providers

Dr. Stephens directs the Group Therapy Clinic, and serves as Assistant Director for the Psychological Services Center as a whole. She is a licensed psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and an active member of the American Group Psychotherapy Association.

Rachel Stephens, Psy.D.

Katie is passionate about providing a warm and safe space for people to engage in self-discovery, grow into the person they desire to be, and learn skills to live happy, healthy, and productive lives. Group therapy provides a space where individuals can process their difficult experiences and emotions in a meaningful way and learn skills that will help them cope with life's challenges. Katie is privileged to work as the Coordinator and Teaching Fellow for the Psychological Services Center as a whole and be a part of the Group Therapy Clinic. Katie currently facilitates the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group and Chronic Pain and Illness Group.

Katie Woudstra, M.A.

Ashley is currently a 3rd year student in the Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) program at Regent University. She has clinical experience as a group co-leader, couples' clinician, and as a generalist therapist. Her areas of interest include trauma, military populations, groups, and working with couples.

Ashley Jens, M.A., M.S.

Erica is currently a co-therapist here at the Psychological Services Center’s Group Therapy Clinic, facilitating the trauma group. She is passionate about working with client’s recovering from trauma and joining them in their journey to healing. She believes that we are hurt in relationships, and therefore heal in relationships. This principle makes group therapy an ideal modality for healing from interpersonal trauma and reestablishing healthy ways of relating with others.

Erica Bourne, M.A.

Pete is passionate about providing space and sanctuary to process life’s many ups and downs.  He believes everyone’s story matters, and that each client has unique experiences that can help others.  Group therapy is a place where individuals can find support and hope in whatever situations they find themselves in.  He has experience working with a variety of diagnosis, with an emphasis on trauma and the Veteran Population.  Pete is excited to working with the Group Clinic at the Psychological Services Center and facilitates the Chronic Pain and Illness Group.

Pete Kass, M.A.

Vera has a passion for helping people better understand their emotions and truly connect with their feelings and thoughts. In our lives, we all face times when we are overwhelmed and experience strong emotions. Group therapy can be a safe place to process complex emotions and share one’s experiences with others. Learning new skills and better understanding our minds can help us be better prepared for the tough times in life. Vera has strong ties to helping people overcome various traumas and believes there is always a way to make life better. She currently facilitates the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group.

Vera Turbessi, M.A.

Courtney is passionate about helping others learn skills to be able to cope with difficult circumstances and the struggles of life. Trauma can make connecting with others difficult and can lead to feelings of loneliness and isolation. Group therapy is a great resource to experience a safe space to learn and grow and join others on the path to recovery. She has experience with a wide variety of diagnoses, with an emphasis on trauma, young adults, and children/adolescents. Courtney currently co-facilitates the Trauma Recovery Group.
